Unlike rabbits or deer, squirrels cannot digest cellulose and must rely on foods rich in protein, carbohydrates, and fat.
There are three types: tree squirrels [with bushy tails], ground squirrels [with a non-bushy tail], and flying squirrels [who cannot really fly, but can glide up to 150 feet=46 m using a flap of skin]. Ground and tree squirrels are typically diurnal, while flying squirrels tend to be nocturnal.
The tiniest squirrel is the aptly named African pygmy squirrel. Squirrels planted millions of trees accidentally by bury nuts and then forget that where they hid them. They communicate with their distinctive chirps.
A squirrel's brain is almost the size of a walnut. fact about squirrels is that they have sweat glands on their feet.
Squirrels have such sharp teeth that they can break the hard shells of nuts, and also chew the electric wires.
